The recent decision by Jon Bruning not to run for re-election to the Office of Attorney General provides an opportunity for me to utilize my experience, abilities and interest in a manner that will best serve the people of the state of Nebraska. I feel strongly that the time is right for me to move on to a new level of public service in the position of Nebraska Attorney General.
While serving for many years as a criminal prosecutor for the City of Omaha, while serving as a Governor-appointed member of the Nebraska Crime Commission, and while serving in the legislature, I have viewed the Office of the Attorney General as a long-term goal of mine. My passion for public service and my unique experience have provided me with the tools to be highly effective as Nebraska’s Chief Law Enforcement Officer.
Serving the citizens of Nebraska has been an important goal and a valuable tradition within my family for generations. My mother was a State Senator while my father worked in law enforcement for the Douglas County Sheriff. Growing up, I wanted to make sure I followed in my parents' footsteps and continued to serve others in our community. With the support of the people of Nebraska, I hope to carry on this important tradition.
Therefore, I am officially filing today to run for the position of Nebraska Attorney General. As I have over the past year, I will continue to meet with Nebraskans in every part of our state to speak with them about this important role.
